Getting started
Is my device supported?
We support both Apple and Android mobile phones and our app is available to download on App Store and Google Play.
Which languages do you support?
The app is available in English, Swedish and Serbian, and you can download and use it anywhere in the world.
Can I use the app on multiple devices?
Yes. Push notifications only go to the device you last signed in on, and signing out on one device stops notifications on every device until you sign in again.
Can the app remind me?
Yes. Under Reminders you can switch on a reminder for today’s workout, a missed workout, your self-reflection, your habits, habits you still have left, and quizzes. Each has its own time, set in ten-minute steps. A reminder only arrives when there is something to do, so no workout planned means no workout reminder.
Why did I not get a reminder?
Three usual reasons. There was nothing to remind you of, such as a reflection you had already done. Notifications for GOATNESS are switched off on your phone. Or you have signed in on another device since, because reminders go to the device you last signed in on.
Does GOATNESS sync with Apple Health or Google Health Connect?
Not at the moment. What you track in GOATNESS stays in GOATNESS; the app does not read from or write to Apple Health or Health Connect.
The self-reflection
How do I use the self-reflection?
The Reflection tab holds two daily entries. In the Reflection you rate Persona, Physique and Competence from 0 to 100% and pick your mood on the icon scale; the ratings lock once you save. The Diary is a separate entry for free text, and you can keep editing it.
Both can be filled in or updated up to about a month back.
Where can I read more about Persona, Physique, Competence?
In the daily Reflection, press the info button next to each headline for a fuller explanation of Persona, Physique and Competence. The Diary has an info button of its own explaining how to use it.
Can I change my reflection afterwards?
The Reflection’s ratings are locked after the first save. The Diary is a separate entry and can be edited for up to about a month back.
Is my diary encrypted?
Yes. Your Diary is encrypted both on its way to us and in the database.
Can my coach see my diary?
No. The Diary is yours alone. If you train with a coach, they can see the ratings in your Reflection, Persona, Physique, Competence and mood, but never your Diary.
Can my friends group see my reflection?
No. Your group only ever sees the group’s average of the Reflection ratings, never your individual ratings or your Diary, and the average appears only once at least three members have reflected in that period.
Training and tracking
What is the difference between the Daily and Personalized tabs?
Daily holds suggestions from GOAT Sports Clinic. Personalized holds what has been assigned to you, by your coach or by yourself. The split is the same for workouts, meals, habits, quizzes and reflections.
Are the workouts made for me?
No. The workouts in the library and on the Daily tab are programmed for people in general, not tailored to you. If you have a medical condition, talk to a physician before you exercise.
I missed registering a workout, what do I do?
On the GOAT Core or Calendar screen you can go back about a month and add or track a workout on the day you did it.
Why is my planned workout not on the calendar day?
The day view in the Calendar is a report of what you completed and tracked that day. Anything still planned or pending is not there yet. Find it on GOAT Core or the Reflection tab and complete it, and it appears.
I plan to do my own workout that is not in the library, can I track that?
Yes. Open General Activities from GOAT Core or the Calendar, pick the activity that fits and track it as your own workout.
Can I delete a personalized workout or meal?
Anything you have tracked can be untracked, whether you or your coach added it. A workout or meal you added yourself can also be removed while it is untracked.
A workout from your coach can be removed too: it disappears from your app, and your coach can still see that you removed it. A meal from your coach stays on your plan until your coach removes it.
What do the abbreviations mean?
Exercises are lettered. A letter on its own, such as A, means do that exercise by itself. A letter with a number, such as A1 and A2, means the exercises are a combination: do them in that order, then repeat the set.
Sets — how many rounds of an exercise or combination to do.
Reps — how many repetitions in each set. Reps/Side means that many per side.
Tempo — how long each part of a repetition takes, as four numbers in seconds. 2-0-2-0 means two seconds out, no pause, two seconds back, no pause.
Time — how long to perform the exercise. Time/Side means that long per side.
Weight — the load to use. Distance — how far to go.
RR — repetitions in reserve: how many good repetitions you could still do when you stop. 2RR means two left.
SR — seconds in reserve: how many seconds you could still hold with good form. 5SR means five seconds left.
Rest — how long to rest before the next set or exercise. Rep Rest — how long to rest after each repetition.
WOD — the workout of the day, the suggestion on the daily tab.
RM — repetition maximum: 1RM is the heaviest weight you can lift once, 5RM the heaviest you can lift five times.
MET — a standard measure of how much energy an activity uses. Workouts with a MET value let the stopwatch estimate calories once your weight is on your profile.
How does the stopwatch estimate calories?
From the workout’s MET value and the details on your profile. Your weight is required, and adding your height, date of birth and gender makes the estimate better. Workouts without a MET value show no estimate. It is an estimate, not a measurement.
What can I track besides workouts?
Sleep, including naps and how rested you feel; hydration; habits, with multipliers for things you do several times a day; meals, either as a quick log or a meal you build yourself; and quizzes. The workout stopwatch also estimates the calories of a session from the details on your profile.
How do I log a meal?
Quick log is for registering a single meal or summing up a whole day: pick from a short list of everyday foods, enter how many grams you ate, and the macros and calories are calculated for you. Create a meal is for building a meal or recipe from ingredients that you save and reuse.
Nutritional values are estimates, and the portion sizes in the library are inspiration, not prescriptions.
How does sleep tracking work?
Log how long you slept, whether it was your main sleep or a nap, and how rested you woke up. You can log several sessions a day and they add up to a daily total. Tap a day’s sleep to review, edit or remove what you logged.
How do habits with a multiplier work?
Tap a habit card to mark it done. A habit with a multiplier, such as ×3, needs that many taps to complete, and the pill on the card shows how far you are. The minus button takes one off or untracks the habit.
What are metrics and goals?
Metrics track a value over time, such as your weight, a max number of reps or a running time. Create your own or follow the ones your coach assigns. Add a goal to a metric to work towards a target by a date, and log new values with the plus button on its card. The Assessments segment appears only if you train with a coach.
Can I use pounds and inches?
Not yet. The app uses metric units: kilograms and centimetres.
Groups, friends and the Feed
Can I invite my friends to use the app?
Yes. Create a group and enter your friends’ e-mail addresses, or invite them to a group you already run. You can chat with each other and compare your own statistics with the group’s average.
How many persons can be in my group?
There is no maximum. A group needs at least two people, and the group’s average statistics appear once at least three members have reflected in the period you are looking at.
My friend doesn’t have the app yet. Can I still invite them?
Yes. Enter their e-mail address when you create or edit the group and they get an invitation by e-mail. Once they have signed up, they are in the group.
What does my group see when I track something?
You decide, per group, in the group’s preferences. Sharing workouts lets the group see when you finish one, with its duration, intensity and calories; your workout and exercise comments stay private. Sharing reflections lets the group see that you completed one; your ratings and your Diary stay private. Receive updates only controls whether you are notified about the group’s activity, which appears in your feed either way.
What is the Feed?
Your own completed workouts and reflections, the same from people in your chat groups, a recap of your week every Monday and of your month at the start of each month, a suggested workout when you have been away for a while, and announcements from your organisation if you train with one. You can like and comment on the cards. Use the chips at the top to see everything, only yours, only friends, or one group.
What is in the weekly recap?
Workouts done, meals logged, your habit hit rate and reflections done, for the week just finished. It appears in the Feed on Monday morning, and Open recap shows the detail. The monthly recap does the same for the month.
Who sees my activity in the Feed?
People who share a chat group with you, and only what you have chosen to share with that group. What each group sees is set per group in its preferences; see the question above.
Account and billing
How do I update my card details?
On your profile in the app, press Manage Subscription. It opens Stripe’s customer portal, where you can change your card and manage your subscription.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Press Manage Subscription on your profile and cancel in Stripe’s customer portal. Deleting your account also ends your subscription: it runs to the end of the period you have paid for and you are not charged again.
How do I change my e-mail address or password?
Both are on your profile in the app, under Change e-mail and Change password.
How do I delete my account?
On your profile, choose Delete account. The account is kept for 30 days in case you change your mind, then removed for good, and an active subscription runs to the end of the paid period and is not renewed. If your account is connected to a coach, ask your coach to delete it.
Why does a friend in another country pay a different price?
The price is set per country, in bands, and always charged in euros. Your band is the one for the country you are in when you subscribe.
